   Wheat...West coast cash wheat bids took a modest setback from recent
highs in early week trade, following the lower trade across the futures
complex on Monday. White wheat basis continues to weaken relative the
Chicago futures, and was posted at 85 under on Tuesday; more than one
dollar below the seasonal average.  
   Shipments...Weekly export inspections showed another relatively good
week of wheat movement off U.S. ports, coming in at 15.8 million bushels.
This puts year-to-date loadings at 175 million bushels, which stands 28%
behind a year ago. Hard red spring moved 7.8 million bushels, soft white
wheat registere3d 3.4 million and hard red winter 1.9 million. Exporter
activity on the west coast showed 10.5 million bushels of wheat shipped,
mostly to the Philippines and Taiwan, along with 14 million bushels of
corn for Japan and South Korea.
   Crop Progress...Spring wheat harvest approached the 90% completion
mark for both Idaho and Washington, with yield reports acknowledging a
higher yield but remarkably low protein. Measurable precipitation and
cooler weather are anticipated this week, which should help facilitate
winter wheat plantings.
