Wheat...A continued solid pace of export demand for white wheat kept
west coast bids firm this week, while hard red winter and dark northern
spring wheat posted week-on-week gains against higher futures markets.
Export bid structures also remained flat through September for all PNW
wheat classes. Cooler weather with scattered precipitation should have
improved regional wheat crop conditions this week.
Weekly Sales...Overall export demand for U.S. wheat sagged a bit over
the past week, with USDA reporting 11 million bushels in sales to place
year-to-date commitments at 213 million bushels. This stands 19% behind
a year ago and 5% below the five-year average pace. White wheat was the
top seller with 4.4 million bushels, putting commitments at 60 million,
which is 57% ahead of a year ago and 42% above average. Hard red spring
saw 2.3 million bushels in sales and with 61 million in commitments, is
running 20% behind a year ago and 11% below average. Hard red winter had
2.1 million bushels in new sales, putting commitments at 52 million; 48%
behind a year ago and 22% below average. Mexico, Unknown and Colombia
were the top buyers last week.
